Youth Training Camps

Can you already tell the stage is calling your child? Have they already had some success on stage or screen and now they are ready to hone their skills?

Broadway director Kenny Leon and True Colors Theatre Company, in collaboration with AREA, Atlanta’s Resource for Entertainment & Arts, are pleased to present professional youth training camps.

These programs are designed for youth who are interested in professional training. Only 30 slots available, enrollment is subject to availability.

Class Sessions
Acting/Musical Theatre Intensive
Ages 13-18
July 12-16, 2010
1 - 6PM
$400

Young actors will learn how to audition and interview for roles. We will focus on choosing the right monologue and song. We will also learn some basic dance vocabulary and have an opportunity to learn choreography. Young performing artists who are strong singers, dancers and actors are encouraged to participate in this one week intensive. We will end with a short presentation. There will be several local directors at the final presentation.

Program Includes: Movement, Singing, Script Reading, and Monologue – Scene Work and the Rehearsal Process.

Young Creative Dramatics
Ages 8-12
August 2 – 6, 2010
10AM - 4PM - early drop-off & late stay available
$300

A fun, upbeat camp that will let your young one express their creativity through writing, movement, drama and music. The week will culminate with a 30 minute original presentation that the children will create.

Artists Teaching Summer Sessions

  • Tracey Bonner
  • Tracey is an Ensemble Member of Congo Square Theatre Company. Her Off-Broadway and Regional credits include Home (Signature Theatre Company; Best Ensemble, Vivian Robinson AUDELCO Award and Madison Repertory Theatre). Her Chicago credits include The Talented Tenth (Best Play, BTA Award) and Joe Turner’s Come and Gone (Best Play, BTA Award), How the Kanye’ West Was Won (Congo Square Theatre Company) and Six Degrees of Reparation (The Second City, Chicago). She holds a BS from Tennessee State University and an MFA from The Theatre School at DePaul University. She would like to thank Derrick Sanders & True Colors Theatre Company for the opportunity to continue practicing her craft.

  • Kislyck Halsey
  • Kislyck Halsey is an actress, singer and dancer originally from Greensboro, NC . She received her BFA in Professional Theatre from North Carolina A&T State University and then went on to receive her MFA in Acting from the University of Florida . Since arriving in Atlanta she has been seen on stage in Black Nativity with Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company as the Birth Angel/Head Usher and Blues in the Night with Theatrical Outfit as The Girl With a Date. She is blessed to be apart of such an awesome production and is humbled by the opportunity.

  • Hilda Willis
  • Hilda, actress, writer and vocalist, began performing in 1969. In 1986 she made her directing debut in the Antilles.
    By 1990, Hilda had co-written and directed two musicals that were later produced in several Off-Broadway venues.
    Her work is known in Atlanta, California and New York.She has also produced and directed for television. Hilda is currently on the staff of Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company. As a director and artistic consultant, Hilda has and continues to work with artists in many artistic disciplines. A highlighted list includes: Ruby Dee, Jane Fonda, Michael Bolton, Lou Gossett Jr., Allen Alda, India Arie, Donald Faison and Allen Payne.
