Check out the play reading schedule below:
June 1 at 7pm: Brownsville Song (b-side for tray) by Kimber Lee directed by David Kote
Moving fluidly between past and present, this bold new play tells the story of Tray, a spirited African-American 18-year-old and his family, who must hold on to hope when Tray’s life is cut short. (Synopsis from Samuel French)
June 2 at 7pm: Barbeque by Robert Ohara directed by Justin Anderson
The O’Mallerys have gathered in their local park to share some barbecue and straight talk with their sister Barbara, whose spiral of drugs and recklessness has forced her siblings to stage an open-air intervention. But the event becomes raucous and unpredictable as familial stereotypes collide with hard realities, and racial politics slam up against the stories we tell—and maybe even believe—about who we were and who we’ve become. (Synopsis from Drama Book Shop)
June 3 at 7pm: Dot by Coleman Domingo directed by Kenny Leon
The holidays are always a wild family affair at the Shealy house. But this year, Dotty and her three grown children gather with more than exchanging presents on their minds. As Dotty struggles to hold on to her memory, her children must fight to balance care for their mother and care for themselves. This twisted and hilarious new play grapples unflinchingly with aging parents, midlife crises, and the heart of a West Philly neighborhood. (Synopsis from Vineyard Theater)
