Join us for the 2:30pm matinee of Smart People on July 17th and stay for a post-show talk with panelists from our Race 2.0 Conversation. Get their perspective on how cultural stereotypes and racial interpretation play out in the show. Panelists include Dr. Michael Simanga, Zainab Alwan, and Sierra Brown.
Dr. Michael Simanga, Ph.D is an activist writer and multi-discipline artist and is currently Visiting Lecturer in the Department of African American Studies at Georgia State University.
Zainab A. Alwan is the Asylum Project Attorney for the Georgia Asylum & Immigration Network (GAIN). GAIN provides free legal representation to asylum seekers, and immigrant victims of human trafficking, domestic violence and other violent crimes. Prior to joining GAIN, Zainab worked with Socheat Chea, P.C., a private immigration law firm in Atlanta, GA. Zainab is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Georgia and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. She received her Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 2011. When Zainab is not advocating for immigrant rights, she devotes her time to interfaith work in the Atlanta area.
Sienna Brown is an undergrad student at Georgia State University, and is constantly looking for ways to expand the culture in Atlanta. In October 2014, she founded her company Talk. Eat. Art. which provides a space for people to gain a deeper understanding of the human experience while enhancing the lives of the creative person within, and simultaneously igniting social change. As she looks forward to graduating, she hopes to continue to inspire her generation to use their voice for change. With her “let go, let life flow” mentality, she feels as though it’s important for everyone to follow their dreams no matter the obstacles in place.
