Meet the Artist

Kayla Parker is a dynamic theatre maven. She began her career at 18, working as Robin Givens’ right hand during an international tour of her stage play, Joy in The Morning. She attended Howard University as a student of their Theatre Arts program, concentrating on acting. In addition to her curriculum, Parker was afforded the opportunity to work in the D.C. theatre community, where she began to tap into writing and the power of storytelling. Her latest work is on Crossroads, a serialized podcast project with Actor’s Express that will premiere in Spring 2021.

Kayla Parker remains an active member of the Atlanta theater community and is ecstatic to be working with Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company. Parker is proud to use her gifts to be of service to her community and strives to be a part of the change to revolutionize the next generation.

“On Being Born”

As budding poet, Joy, works tirelessly on her next piece, she is catapulted into her memories. Starting from birth, Joy reflects on the different times she has experienced both joy and pain, hoping to capture those emotions in her poem.
