Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company’s mission is to celebrate the rich traditions of Black storytelling while giving voice to bold new artists from all cultures. True Colors thrives at the intersection of artistic excellence and civic engagement and is a nurturing home for black artists with a professional community that spans the globe and includes members such as Samuel L. Jackson, Jasmine Guy, and Phylicia Rashad.
As part of the Next Narrative initiative, True Colors is launching the Dihvinely Konnecked (DK) Commissions program intended to identify, center, and interweave emerging Black artists into our rich and accomplished network of talent. Sponsored by Stefaniyemiya Ingram’s Dihvinely Konnecked Productions, the DK fellows will be part of the celebration of voices in True Colors’ 18th Anniversary Season – Joy and Pain. Joy and Pain explores the juxtaposition and intermixing of these emotions in the lives of Black people.
True Colors will commission ten (10) early-career Atlanta based artists to produce a five (5) minute digital interpretation of the Joy and Pain theme. The selected artists will receive $500 to produce their content and will be featured artists promoted across the True Colors community. Final presentations will be shared publicly and virtually on our various channels in early Spring 2021.
