Marie and Rosetta

June 16  - July 12 | $20 – $50

Marie and Rosetta | Written by George Brant

American songwriter, guitarist and recording artist, Sister Rosetta Tharpe embarks on a journey with young gospel singer, Marie Knight. After Sister Rosetta successfully steals Marie away from Mahalia Jackson, the two practice and perform what becomes an amazing stage duo. Despite practicing in funeral homes and other unworthy accommodations, Marie and Rosetta successfully stun the world and form an everlasting friendship that spans the ages.

Adding a little bit of sass to traditional gospel, this play with music sheds light on “invisible” black performers in the South and the legacies left behind.
